What is the difference between Cloud Connect Local and Cloud Connect Public Cloud?
Cloud Connect Local keeps the backup data inside NZ on local backup storage. This enables faster backup and recovery times compared to Public Cloud, but this can be more expensive. By contrast Cloud Connect Public Cloud keeps the backup data on public cloud data lakes, including offshore, and this makes backup and restore times much slower, but this can be cheaper. Each customer will decide on the right solution for their needs. In addition, Cloud Connect Public Cloud is a great solution when used as part of a 3-2-1-0 strategy and used as a final third tier.
What is the 3-2-1-0 Backup Strategy?
The 3-2-1-0 backup strategy is where you keep 3 copies of your data. The original, plus 2 backup copies on 2 different platforms, with minimum 1 copy off-site and immutable, with 0 errors – meaning the backups are regularly ‘restore tested’ to ensure they actually work and to the agreed RTO and RPO.
This 3-2-1-0 strategy creates redundancy and resilience (including Cyber), ensuring data can be restored even if local copies are lost, making it a foundation for reliable data recovery. Zero errors are achieved through a Lexel managed service including regular restore testing.
What are Immutable Backups?
Immutable backups are unchangeable copies of data that cannot be modified, deleted, or encrypted for a set period, acting as a tamper-proof “vault” to protect against ransomware, insider threats, and accidental data loss by ensuring a clean, reliable recovery point. Implementing Immutable backups as part of a 3-2-1-0 strategy is key to mitigate risks, especially from Cyber breaches. Â
